Research book is an essential item for everyone as it allows a few very important in-game mechanics, such as: – Research Recipe (crafting & magic) – Gathering research points for item upgrade
Researching:
Research books enable you to explore specific paths to discover random recipes. To be able to research anything, you have to buy a specific perk in the World Lore skill and have a proper item added to the Book itself.
Items can be added using “Add items to research kit” button and those are (from the left) bee wax (gathered from beehive – horti), Vellum (Artistan), drafting ink (alchemy), Acacia gum(acacia tree-horti), and Morium (heretical items only required for researching spells). Those items can be added and removed, and what is most important increase the weight of the book.
When you add 4 important ingredients (not Morium, as if you add it, you are heretical scum and will be burned alive), all you need to do is add proper Tool to the research book. In order to research an alchemy recipe, you need to add a mixing vial, etc.
When you add a tool to the research book, that tool will be removed forever. You will get “uses” of that tool for each full 50 uses on the item. That means that if an item has 199 uses left and you gonna “feed” the book, you will get 3 uses of that item and the item in your backpack will be lost forever.
After you have added ingredients and tools, all you need to do is click Start Research. After that, any action that gains you infusion (in a mechanical way, like chopping trees, etc) will progress the research.
When 100% research is achieved, the recipe will be added to your backpack, and after a brief moment, you will be able to start a new research.
Interesting facts: - You cannot have a few research projects started at the same time and research them at the same time – Sometimes the book “forgets” that you started the research, but when you click “start research,” the progress gets back – You can trade this book to use the gathered infusion, and progress will not break – The number of items researched can be increased by world lore perks, and it is the best known way to get many uses of the items. – Gathering infusion in the book raises world lore skill – Researching spells cost a lot of infusion -100000 but also your soul as you're gonna burn in hell
Gathering research points
While holding a research book and doing any activity that in a mechanical way gives you infusion (like mining, etc, RP not working) book will gain infusion to the cap of 20000.
After getting the cap, all additional points will be lost, so a new book should be acquired or points should be spent.
Every experienced crafter can use their skill to upgrade the quality of the item using research points from the book. It means that you can gather research points yourself and then ask, for example blacksmith for an upgrade of your equipment by giving him a book. The book itself will not be destroyed in that process.
When the item achieves the proper upgrade progress level, the quality of the item will be increased. To upgrade to a higher quality level, you need to have a proper skill level.
Interesting facts – You can hold many books at the same time, but only one will be gathering research points – You do not choose from which research book you spend points, so when upgrading using someone else's book, there is a chance to use some of your points – You cannot directly choose which book gains research points, but moving books around in your backpack can affect which one will get points – You cannot move points between the books – You can sell an already upgraded book to others
